Cundall

Word template development, bespoke classroom training, production of electronic guides and online training sessions for an international engineering consultancy 

Cundall were looking for help with development of a new Word template for their reports. The work involved new corporate branding and implementation of some user friendly functionality. Automation via programming code (macros) was not needed for this report template so intelligent use was made of content controls, list and paragraph styles and quick parts.

Once they had completed the template development, SJM Training was asked to deliver a series of classroom training sessions around the UK and Ireland to introduce engineers and administrators to the template. These sessions also provided an opportunity to update delegates' Word skills, where necessary, and ensure that all self-taught users became familiar with time-saving tips and shortcuts. Some simple step-by-step instruction electronic guides were produced to act as an aide memoire.

Cundall also has offices in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia. In addition, future new joiners would need to be introduced to the report template. As well as access to the electronic guides, these requirements were met by a series of online training sessions which SJM Training wrote and recorded to cover the topics contained in the classroom training.

 

Enterprise Study

Design, development and delivery of training and user guides for a cloud based Learning Management System

In 2011, SJM Training began working with the team from Enterprise Study Ltd (ES), a company that provides its customers with a technology to transform learning for their business using ES's cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS).  SJM Training has designed and developed training material on the LMS modules and delivers training courses to ES's new and existing customers.   We are also responsible for writing and updating the User Guides for the LMS.

Financial Services Authority/Financial Conduct Authority

IT and project support on MS Office and corporate bespoke systems; consultancy solutions

SJM Training moved with the Banking Supervision Division of the Bank of England in 1998 to become part of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and helped the in-house IS Services to provide FSA staff with IT training on Microsoft Office and corporate bespoke systems to directly support the FSA's strategic objectives.  In addition SJM Training provided project support for the implementation of new bespoke systems and Microsoft Office upgrades, second-line Help Desk support, consultancy and VBA development in Office applications and comprehensive on-line user guides.

Since 2009 SJM Training has provided customised solutions for the production of Word templates for HR contracts and standard letters.  These use customised user forms and VBA programming code and gave benefits in terms of process improvement and a significant reduction in the time taken for managers to proof read.

Red Snapper Learning

Design and delivery of Microsoft Office training sessions on Outlook, Word and Excel

SJM Training was asked to provide some introductory and intermediate level Microsoft Office training for delegates working at a military establishment.  In order to ensure the best possible use of the training days available, we conducted an initial Training Needs Analysis so delegates could be assigned to the most relevant sessions that covered the topics aligned to their work.  Delegates had varying levels of experience from beginners to intermediate and most skills had been obtained on a self-teach basis.

The sessions were well received by the delegates who found the tailored content relevant and easy to understand and, most importantly, enjoyable.   Subsequent feedback confirmed that delegates were able to put what they learnt into practice back in the office.

A Manufacturing Supplier to an International Supermarket Chain

Automated performance management and business intelligence reporting

SJM Training developed an automated weekly report system for a manufacturing company providing household goods to an international supermarket chain.   The supermarket required detailed information comparing this year and last year sales for the same week, broken down into normal sales and promotional sales.  Source data came from various Excel spreadsheets, some generated from Retail Link reports.  The automated system produced the necessary reports in 15 minutes compared to the previous manual compilation time of 4 to 5 hours. 

Somerset Care Ltd

Forensic consultancy and customised training

SJM Training was asked by the Property Department of Somerset Care Ltd to help investigate a spreadsheet which recorded suppliers, orders and invoices for Property Maintenance Control.  This had been set up and partially automated by someone who had since left the company.  SJM Training ran a couple of sessions combining forensic consultancy and customised training to facilitate the creation of a new version of the spreadsheet which could be understood and used going forward.

HM Prison Services

Automated performance management reporting

During HM Prison Services implementation of a new HR system, SJM Training provided an interim MI reporting solution.  This involved working with the Shared Service Centre to automate the creation of Management Information reports using Excel VBA from data downloaded from the new Oracle system.  These reports were distributed to prisons on a daily and weekly basis.  These reports were further automated to provide statistical analysis of Key Performance Targets and a Digital Dashboard for prison governors.

Bank of England

Planning, delivery and evaluation of tailored MS Office training

In 1996, SJM Training was contracted by the Supervision & Surveillance Division of the Bank of England to provide supplementary training, consultancy and helpdesk support.  The original objective was to help implement proposals from the post-Barings Arthur Anderson report which recommended a much greater use and awareness of IT by all staff, especially management.  The initial focus was to establish a set of core competencies for each job role, assess current skill levels and devise tailored course modules for Microsoft Office training.  A training programme was planned, administered, delivered and evaluated.
